Govt to replace WPI with PPI system

The government has decided to gradually phase out the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and replace it with a comprehensive Producer Price Index (PPI) system. The decision was taken to modernise country’s inflation and pricing data framework and align it with global best practices. The Commerce and Industry Ministry said that the government has approved the revision of the base year of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from 2011-12 to 2022-23. Government hikes export duties on diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel

The Indian government has increased Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) on diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) exports in its latest fortnightly review, effective June 16, 2026. The export duty on diesel rose to ₹14 per litre from ₹13.05, and ATF to ₹12.05 per litre from ₹9.05. Petrol export duty remains unchanged at ₹1.05 per litre.
