Karnataka Bank Partners with Tobacco Board to Aid Growers

Karnataka Bank has entered into a strategic partnership with the Tobacco Board to provide customized financial solutions to registered tobacco growers across Karnataka. This collaboration is designed to facilitate timely access to credit, promote financial inclusion, and support the sustainable growth of the tobacco farming community.

Financial Solutions for Growers

Under this initiative, Karnataka Bank will offer a dedicated suite of banking and credit facilities specifically tailored to meet the financial requirements of tobacco farmers registered with the Tobacco Board. Raghavendra S Bhat, Managing Director and CEO of Karnataka Bank, emphasized the bank's commitment to empowering the farming community through innovative and need-based financial solutions.

"Our partnership with the Tobacco Board will help registered tobacco growers gain easier access to banking services and timely credit support, enabling them to improve productivity and strengthen their livelihoods," said Bhat.

Srinivasa BC, Director of Auctions at the Tobacco Board, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in enhancing financial access for registered tobacco growers. By combining institutional support with tailored banking solutions, the initiative aims to help farmers meet their financial needs more effectively and contribute to the overall development of the sector.

El Nino May Weaken India's Monsoon, Threaten Rice and Maize Output, FAO Warns

The FAO has warned that the newly begun El Nino phase may weaken India's summer monsoon, putting rainfed crops like rice and maize under stress during the kharif season. Historical analysis shows that during the 2015-16 El Nino, India's maize output fell by 4% and rice dropped by 1%, while Southeast Asia lost about 15 million tonnes of rice. The agency also flagged that disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz are raising energy and fertiliser costs as farmers prepare for sowing.
