Actor Alix Wilton Regan has been cast as the new voice of Lara Croft for two Tomb Raider titles set to launch in 2027, according to an interview at Summer Game Fest 2026. Regan called the part 'there is no bigger role' for actors working in the video game space.
Two Games, One Lara
The franchise will release Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, followed later in 2027 by the all-new instalment Tomb Raider: Catalyst. Both games will feature a unified version of Lara Croft portrayed by Regan, intended to bridge the classic series with the grittier 2013 reboot trilogy.
'Exhilarating and Daunting'
Regan described taking on the iconic role as 'exhilarating and daunting in equal measure', likening it to 'being on a rollercoaster that you're really happy to be on because it's thrilling, but you're also slightly s******g your pants at the same time.' She expressed no pressure to differentiate her portrayal, saying she is 'going back to core Lara' and her job is to 'leave no Laras behind.' She aims to 'take the most important bits, assimilate them, digest them, and then bring them up to speed for modern audiences.'
Biggest Role in Gaming
'I think taking on the role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider would be the biggest role for any actress that works in the video game space. There is no bigger role. This is it. This is the pinnacle, and I'm just thrilled to be here,' Regan said. She confirmed she will stay up until midnight for the Legacy of Atlantis launch.
Industry Context
The announcement comes as the Tomb Raider franchise expands into television with a massive TV show. Regan noted the 'exciting time for the franchise' with two games and a TV series in development.
