Kerala's Fisheries Sector to Leverage Tech for Global Excellence

Kerala's fisheries sector is set to undergo a significant transformation as the government pledges support to develop the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) into a Centre of Excellence. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to leverage technology and research for sustainable development in the fisheries industry.

Government Support and Strategic Plans

The State Fisheries Minister V E Abdul Gafoor emphasized the government's commitment to supporting KUFOS in its mission to achieve international standards. The university's Strategic Action Plan and Institutional Development Plan for 2026–2031 outline a roadmap for sustainable fisheries transformation.

"KUFOS plays a crucial role in the development of the fisheries sector and the blue economy," said Minister Gafoor.

Knowledge Cluster for Collaborative Research

In addition to KUFOS's development, the government plans to establish a knowledge cluster to facilitate collaboration among research institutes. This cluster aims to address challenges such as climate change and resource management through coordinated research efforts.

Infrastructure and Technological Innovations

The proposed development of the Munambam Fisheries Harbour into a Green Smart Harbour is another key project. This ₹200-crore initiative will feature environmentally sustainable infrastructure and modern facilities to meet international export standards.

Project Budget Features
Munambam Fisheries Harbour ₹200 crore Sustainable infrastructure, waste management, energy efficiency

Conclusion

These initiatives reflect Kerala's commitment to integrating technology and research in its fisheries sector, aiming for global competitiveness and sustainability.

LLM Jaggedness Unlocks Scientific Creativity: New Benchmark Reveals Uneven AI Capabilities Can Be Harnessed for Innovation

A new arXiv paper introduces SciAidanBench, a benchmark for measuring the scientific creativity of large language models. The research finds that LLM capabilities are jagged—uneven across tasks and domains—but that this jaggedness can be harnessed through ensemble methods to produce superior scientific ideas.

First Model-Free Universal AI Agent Proved Asymptotically Optimal in General Reinforcement Learning

Researchers introduced Universal AI with Q-Induction (AIQI), the first model-free agent proven asymptotically ε-optimal in general reinforcement learning. Unlike previous model-based optimal agents like AIXI, AIQI performs induction over action-value functions. The proof also establishes optimality for Self-AIXI without ad-hoc assumptions.
