Logistics Highway, Post-Montgomery, Requires ELD Hookups for All Carriers by July 5
Highway is requiring all carriers on its compliance system to connect their electronic logging devices (ELDs) by July 5, a direct response to the Supreme Court's Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II ruling that makes brokers liable for carrier negligence. About 90% of carriers are already connected, but the remaining 10% face failed broker connections if they do not comply.
Logistics FMCSA Drops Rule Requiring Printed ELD Manual in Trucks, Reducing Paperwork Burden
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has finalized a rule eliminating the requirement for truck drivers to carry a printed operator's manual for their electronic logging device (ELD). The change, effective upon publication in the Federal Register, follows a public comment period in which 18 of 24 comments supported the move. FMCSA cited the availability of digital manuals and lack of safety benefit as justification.
