Ex-CBP officer used emoji code to let 477 kilos of Sinaloa Cartel drugs cross
A former U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer, Jesse Clark Garcia, was sentenced to nine years in federal prison for using an emoji-based code to alert a Sinaloa Cartel-linked trafficking organization to his inspection lane at the Tecate Port of Entry, allowing at least 477 kilograms of drugs into the United States. Co-defendant Diego Bonillo received 15 years for waving through 15 vehicles without inspection.
