India's June Jobless Rate Holds at 5.5% as Female Unemployment Rises, Participation Slips

India's overall unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.5% in June, according to the latest NSO PLFS data. However, female unemployment rose to 5.9% from 5.6%, while the female labour force participation rate slid for the fourth consecutive month to 32.7% due to a sharp decline in rural areas. Male unemployment edged down to 5.3%.
