Govt examines if Meta recommendation system deciding what-to-show-to-whom fits intermediary status

The Indian government is examining whether Meta's recommendation systems and paid content promotion are consistent with its status as an intermediary under the IT Act. Government sources said the key issue is whether the platform determines what content is shown to whom, which could amount to publishing and remove safe harbour protections.
