Logistics New Transhipment Vessel Wontanara Delivered to Speed Guinea-China Iron Ore Flows
CSSC Chengxi Shipyard has delivered the Wontanara, the first of five transhipment vessels designed to move iron ore from Rio Tinto's Simandou project in Guinea to China. The self-unloader can discharge 12,000 tonnes per hour and, once all five are operating, can load a 200,000 dwt bulk carrier within 24 hours, reducing anchorage waiting times.
Logistics Polaris Shipping Orders Vale-Backed Newcastlemaxes at Hengli Shipbuilding
South Korea's Polaris Shipping has contracted two firm 210,000 dwt newcastlemax bulk carriers at China's Hengli Shipbuilding, with options for two more, at about $80m each for delivery in 2028. The newbuilds are linked to employment with Brazilian mining giant Vale, which is pushing an alternative-fuel dry bulk renewal programme covering up to 30 ore carriers. Polaris is one of three Asian owners selected by Vale for a package of up to 20 triple-fuel newcastlemaxes.
