Sitharaman: External Aid Projects Must Help Northeast Products Access Global Markets
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said externally aided projects (EAPs) should serve as instruments to help Northeast India's local products access global markets. She noted EAP assistance increased seven-fold under the Modi government, from Rs 9,000 crore (2004-2014) to Rs 76,000 crore (2014-2026). She also inaugurated Northeast India's largest organic spice processing facility in Meghalaya.

Nexus Select Trust plans to deploy up to ₹2,000 crore towards acquisitions this year, expanding its retail real estate footprint in eastern and northeastern India. The proposed acquisition of Kolkata's Diamond Plaza mall is expected to close within one-and-a-half to two months, pending legal and corporate restructuring. Two additional acquisition deals are in advanced stages, targeting the Northeast and adjoining West Bengal. Chief Investor Relations Officer Pratik Dantara highlighted that the Northeast has emerged as an attractive consumption market, particularly for beauty and personal care products, with spending significantly above the national average.
