DHL Global Forwarding has partnered with French startup Vela to offer wind-powered transatlantic cargo services starting in 2027. Vela's 67-metre aluminium trimarans can carry 415 tonnes per voyage, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 99% compared with air freight and 90% versus conventional ocean shipping. The service targets high-value, time-sensitive goods such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and luxury goods.
