India's finance ministry, in its monthly economic review, flagged concerns over a 22% decline in kharif crop sowing in June due to a 43% rainfall deficit. It called for reorienting agricultural pricing policies to incentivize climate-resilient crops and disincentivize water-intensive ones. Despite the sowing decline, wheat and rice stocks exceed 4.4 times the buffer norm, providing a cushion. The ministry also noted that easing global energy market stress moderated crude oil prices, improving growth and inflation outlook.
