India Tightens Scrutiny of Chinese Herbicide Imports Amid Anti-Absorption Review
India's Department of Revenue has tightened scrutiny on imports of Chinese herbicide glufosinate, directing customs to provisionally assess all imports pending an anti-absorption review by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR). Importers must furnish financial guarantees for potential additional duties. Separately, anti-dumping duties on butyl alcohol from the US, Malaysia, and South Africa were extended for five years.
Chinese Investors Review Bond Portfolios as AAA Ratings Face Regulatory Scrutiny
Chinese domestic investors, including mutual funds and banks, are reviewing bond portfolios for downgrade risks after regulators tightened scrutiny of AAA-rated issuers. Over a quarter of China's nearly 6,000 bond issuers hold AAA ratings, compared to fewer than 1% in the US. At least 20 companies have withdrawn ratings, and analysts warn that downgrades could trigger selling and reduce collateral eligibility.
