Transportation deal values surge as buyers shift to specialization, scarcity

A mid-year report from PwC reveals transportation and logistics deal values are surging as buyers pivot from network scale to acquiring scarce technology assets and specialized capabilities. Average deal size has climbed 321% since 2023, with quarterly totals reaching $39 billion in the first two months of Q2. Buyers are focusing on AI, automation, temperature-controlled logistics, and cross-border infrastructure, while an easing regulatory environment enables larger transactions like the pending Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern rail merger.
