Japanese Yen Hits Four-Decade Low Against US Dollar, Sparking Intervention Fears
The Japanese yen fell to its weakest level against the US dollar since 1986, breaching 161.95 in New York and touching 162.40 in Tokyo. Verbal intervention from officials had little effect. The government previously intervened with a record ¥11.73 trillion, and markets are watching for further action.
