Norwegian Føn Energy Services Wins Multi-Year O&M Deal for Poland's Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm

Norwegian firm Føn Energy Services, backed by Aker, has signed a multi-year contract to deliver integrated operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm in Poland, according to Splash247. The agreement covers a balance-of-plant programme for all subsea assets, including foundations and cables, with extension options, and includes environmental surveys to monitor marine growth and animal habits.

Contract Scope and Services

The O&M programme, according to Splash247, encompasses inspection and corrective maintenance of Baltic Power's subsea assets, covering project management, vessel chartering and management, logistics, engineering, and procurement. Føn Energy Services will be supported by local Polish suppliers in delivering these services.

Project Background and Local Content

Baltic Power is a joint venture between ORLEN and Northland Power, and is described by Splash247 as the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland, the first to reach the construction phase. The 1.2GW wind farm is expected to supply clean electricity to more than 1.5 million Polish households.

Polish companies are already engaged across the Baltic Power supply chain: the topsides of the offshore substations were built in shipyards in Gdańsk and Gdynia, onshore cables were delivered from a factory in Bydgoszcz, and parts of the foundations arrived from Żary and Niemodlin. The local content level for Baltic Power is expected to exceed 21% over the project's lifetime, in line with Poland's Sector Deal guidelines, which specify 20–30% for phase I projects and 40–50% for phase II.

Local Content Requirement Phase I Phase II
Polish Sector Deal guideline 20–30% 40–50%
Baltic Power expected >21%

Føn's Expanding Portfolio

In recent years, Føn Energy Services has significantly expanded its portfolio by delivering integrated O&M services to Ocean Winds at the Moray West and Moray East offshore wind farms in Scotland, which are among the largest offshore wind projects in Europe, according to Splash247.

This contract marks a strategic entry into the Polish offshore wind market for Føn, leveraging its experience in the North Sea. The Baltic Power project is a key part of Poland's energy transition, and the O&M contract will support long-term operational stability. For commodity traders and analysts, while the article does not directly address energy commodity prices, the development of offshore wind capacity like Baltic Power helps shape long-term electricity supply dynamics and renewable energy credit markets in Europe. The involvement of Polish suppliers and the local content targets underscore supply chain localization trends that may influence costs and logistics for wind power projects in the region.
