Private equity and venture capital (PE-VC) investments in India fell nearly 6% to $20.3 billion in January–July 2026, according to data released by research firm Venture Intelligence. In the same period of 2025, investments stood at $21.5 billion. The cumulative figure for the first seven months of 2026 came from 756 deals and excludes real-estate transactions.
July Reading Flat at $3 Billion
July 2026 recorded PE-VC investments of $3 billion, flat against $3.2 billion in July 2025, Venture Intelligence reported. Global investment firm Brookfield's Lumara, a renewable energy platform, led the month's deals with an investment of about $600 million. That transaction helped push the January–July total past the $20 billion mark despite the year-on-year decline.
Why Private Markets Remain Attractive
Arun Natarajan, founder of Venture Intelligence, said the investment pace underscored "the continued long-term faith global and domestic investors have in India's private markets, amid geopolitical challenges and volatile public markets depressing IPO activity." He told Times of India that "healthy exits notched up by investors in recent months — including via the Meta-CRED deal and public market sales — offer a strong reason for optimism."

Sector Focus: Infrastructure, Manufacturing and Data Centres
Private-equity investors have recently concentrated on infrastructure, especially renewable power companies; manufacturing, with particular emphasis on automobile and auto components; and data centres, according to Natarajan. Traditional sectors such as NBFCs and healthcare remain in favour. Venture-capital investors, he added, "are doubling down on B2B software startups, including special emphasis on AI-enabled companies like Sarvam AI and Emergent Labs."
Outlook for CFOs and Capital Markets Watchers
For CFOs, treasury professionals and investors tracking capital flows into emerging markets, the India PE-VC data offers a measured signal: dealmaking activity remains substantial even as the pace cools from 2025's level. Natarajan said private markets in India "showed an impressive resilience across H1 2026," adding that "so long as global macro conditions stay relatively stable, the total PE-VC deployment this year can be expected to land roughly on par with 2025."
That forward view gives corporate planners and institutional investors a concrete benchmark for private-capital availability in India over the remainder of 2026, with Natarajan's expectation of 2025-parity deployment contingent on stable global macro conditions.
