Exports Rise 15% in Apr-Jun 14 Despite Global Uncertainties, Says Piyush Goyal

India's exports grew 15% in the period from April through June 14, 2026, even as global uncertainties and elevated US tariffs persisted, according to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Speaking at an interaction with chartered accountants in Mumbai, Goyal stated, "Even now, if we see April, May and 14 days of June. I have data until June 14, it (exports growth) is 15 per cent." The Commerce Ministry is set to formally release the June export-import data on July 15.

Quarterly Performance and US Tariffs

The minister noted that despite 50% tariffs imposed by the United States, India's exports in the current fiscal year 2025-26 recorded healthy growth. The April-June 14 period captured early quarterly momentum, with May alone showing a 18% year-on-year increase to $45.2 billion — a six-month high. However, the trade deficit widened to $28.21 billion in May.

Minister's Constituency and Cleanliness Campaign

Piyush Goyal, a Lok Sabha member from the Mumbai (North) constituency, also called upon senior officials including the municipal commissioner and corporators to start a cleanliness campaign on Monday. "We all have to make a collective effort for this. We keep our house clean, we also have to keep our area clean, keep our society clean, keep our kaarobaar (business) also clean," the minister said.

The export growth figures come amid continued trade tensions with major partners, but resilience in sectors such as engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, and services has helped sustain momentum. Importers and customs brokers should watch for the full June data release on July 15, which will provide a clearer picture of trade balance trends.
