MPC Capital, a major maritime investment and operating group, will rebrand as MPC Oceanic Group following shareholder approval, affecting contract counterparties and brand recognition across global shipping. The name change is expected to become legally effective in early September after a shareholder vote at the company’s annual general meeting on August 28, according to Splash247.
The rebrand follows MPC Capital’s shift from a traditional investment manager into a broader maritime and energy group spanning investment, vessel operations and services. The company’s maritime platform supports around 500 vessels and includes several subsidiaries: technical manager Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel, shipbroker Harper Petersen Albis, vessel IT provider Waterway, and performance management specialist Bestship. MPC Capital has also developed nearly 40 newbuildings for partners, representing an investment of about $2.5bn. The group manages and operates more than 500 vessels and energy assets valued at around €5.4bn.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Vessels supported | ~500 |
| Newbuildings developed | ~40 |
| Investment in newbuildings | ~$2.5bn |
| Total assets under management | ~€5.4bn |
| Stake owned by Castor Maritime | 74.09% |
| Castor Maritime acquisition price | €182.8m |
The company is also behind Oslo-listed feeder tonnage provider MPC Container Ships, which operates a fleet of around 60 vessels. The planned name change comes after Nasdaq-listed Castor Maritime acquired a 74.09% stake in MPC Capital for €182.8m in late 2024, according to Splash247.
Commenting on the rebrand, Constantin Baack, CEO of MPC Oceanic Group, said:
“MPC Oceanic Group marks the next chapter in our company’s evolution, building on the strategic principles that have guided our successful growth over the past decade. We have evolved into a business that invests, manages, and operates across maritime and energy sectors. Our new name reflects that reality with an identity that is as ambitious and international as the business itself. This is not a change in direction, it is the natural continuation of the course we have pursued successfully for many years.”
For freight forwarders, logistics managers, and ocean carriers, the rebranding is a corporate identity shift but does not alter the operational structure or service offerings. Contracts and partnerships will continue under the new name, with no disruption to vessel management or chartering activities. The subsidiaries—Wilhelmsen Ahrenkiel, Harper Petersen Albis, Waterway, and Bestship—retain their branding, maintaining continuity for clients. The group’s strong backing from Castor Maritime provides financial stability, and its extensive fleet of around 500 vessels ensures capacity remains unaffected.
Watch list: The shareholder vote on August 28 is the next key milestone. Following registration in early September, all references to MPC Capital will transition to MPC Oceanic Group. Shippers and partners should update their records and contracts accordingly to reflect the new legal entity.
