Transfix Integrates Highway Carrier Vetting Into TMS to Combat Freight Fraud

Transfix has integrated Highway’s carrier identity and compliance technology into its transportation management system, allowing freight brokers and 3PLs to automate carrier vetting and perform real-time fraud and compliance checks during the load booking process. The integration is available immediately and aims to address risks such as carrier impersonation, double brokering, and identity-based cargo theft.

Transfix Integrates Highway Carrier Vetting Into TMS to Combat Freight Fraud

Freight brokers and third-party logistics providers using Transfix’s transportation management system can now automatically verify carrier identities and compliance status without leaving their workflow, thanks to an integration with Highway’s carrier vetting technology. The move directly addresses the growing threat of freight fraud, which, according to Highway’s 2025 Freight Fraud Index, involved nearly 2 million blocked fraudulent email attempts and 8.5 million spoofed phone numbers in 2025 alone.

Details of the Integration

Per the announcement covered by FreightWaves, the integration embeds Highway’s carrier identity and compliance technology directly into the Transfix TMS. Brokerage operations and compliance teams can now verify carrier legitimacy, insurance status, and operating authority as carriers are sourced and onboarded. The system also performs real-time fraud and compliance checks during the load booking process. Carrier identity verification becomes part of the booking workflow rather than a separate compliance task, reducing manual verification steps.

Transfix developed its TMS to combine pricing, planning, and load management in a single platform, which also includes AI-driven cost models, dynamic operational controls, and real-time market intelligence. Highway provides carrier identity verification and compliance technology that helps brokers validate carriers before awarding freight. The integration combines transportation management with automated carrier verification in a single workflow, available immediately to all Transfix TMS customers.

The Fraud Landscape

According to Highway’s 2025 Freight Fraud Index, fraud has shifted from primarily impersonation-based schemes toward direct theft involving legitimate carrier identities. The index reported that Highway blocked nearly 2 million fraudulent email attempts and 8.5 million spoofed phone numbers during 2025. These findings reflect a changing threat landscape for freight brokers and third-party logistics providers, where fraud schemes continue to evolve.

Implications for Freight Brokers and 3PLs

The booking process has become one of the most important control points in freight transportation, often the last opportunity to identify a fraudulent carrier before a shipment begins moving. Embedding identity verification into a transportation management system shifts those checks closer to the point where freight is awarded. The integration allows brokers to complete carrier verification without leaving the Transfix TMS, making the process more efficient and reducing the risk of cargo theft, impersonation, and double brokering.

The partnership reflects a broader trend across the freight technology sector: transportation management systems are expanding beyond dispatching and load management to include fraud prevention, compliance, and identity verification. As fraud schemes evolve, brokers are looking for technology that helps identify risk earlier without adding complexity to daily operations.

Watch List

  • Supply Chain AI Symposium: An upcoming event focused on deploying AI in supply chain, which may feature further discussions on fraud prevention technology.
  • F3: Future of Freight Festival: An industry event in Chattanooga that includes technology demonstrations and networking, likely to showcase similar integrations.
  • Evolving fraud tactics: The shift toward direct theft using legitimate carrier identities may prompt further technology responses from TMS providers and vetting platforms.
