Indian Potash and Jain Irrigation Sign MoU to Promote Drip Irrigation in Sugarcane Farming

Indian Potash Limited (IPL) and Jain Irrigation Systems Limited (JISL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on promoting scientific, sustainable, and technology-driven sugarcane cultivation across Gujarat, according to a statement released Friday by IPL.

Partnership Details

Under the MoU, both IPL and JISL have agreed to jointly work to promote efficient irrigation and fertigation technologies for sustainable sugarcane cultivation. The collaboration will focus on the survey, design, supply, and installation of drip irrigation systems, along with capacity building, farmer training, and field demonstrations to encourage the adoption of modern sugarcane farming practices, IPL stated.

Both companies will also jointly organise farmer awareness programmes, workshops, and field demonstrations to build knowledge and confidence among growers, which will help in enhancing sugarcane productivity and improving water-use efficiency, according to the statement.

Additionally, IPL and JISL will facilitate access to credit and grant support for eligible farmers to adopt Micro Irrigation Systems, leading to higher yields, improved crop quality, and increased farm income, the statement said.

Why This Partnership Matters

Since JISL is a leading technology provider in drip and other micro irrigation systems and IPL operates several sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Odisha, the collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both companies to empower sugarcane farmers with innovative technologies and practical solutions that enhance productivity while conserving precious water resources, thereby supporting sustainable agricultural development in Gujarat, the statement explained.

Executive Perspective

“This partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of drip irrigation in sugarcane, improving water-use efficiency, enhancing crop productivity, reducing cultivation costs, increasing farmers’ incomes, and promoting sustainable growth of India’s sugar and biofuel sectors,” said Girdhar Loh, State Head of JISL in Gujarat.

Broader Implications

For manufacturing executives and industrial procurement directors, this MoU signals growing integration between agricultural input suppliers and irrigation technology providers. The focus on micro-irrigation systems could drive demand for drip irrigation components, pipes, valves, and fertigation equipment, potentially impacting supply chains for plastic and metal fabrication. The partnership also highlights the importance of water-efficient technologies in regions facing water scarcity, which may influence investment decisions in agricultural manufacturing capacity.

Production Timeline

The MoU was signed and announced on July 10, 2026. While no specific start date for field activities was provided, the joint programmes are expected to begin immediately as per the collaboration agreement.
