Meta is making its smart glasses more accessible, customizable, and comfortable, according to WIRED. On Tuesday, the company unveiled three new pairs of smart glasses: Adventurer, Fury, and Starfire. The starting price is $299, matching the original price of Meta's first-generation smart glasses but significantly cheaper than the $299 Ray-Ban Gen 2 glasses launched last year. The lower price comes from dropping Ray-Ban or Oakley branding—these are simply called Meta Glasses.

Design and Comfort
Meta partnered with eyewear conglomerate EssilorLuxottica for manufacturing and distribution. The glasses are available at stores like LensCrafters, with prescription support from -12 to +2.25. Three frame shapes are offered: Adventurer (classic rectangular), Fury (similar but less boxy), and Starfire (designed with Kylie Jenner). The Adventurer and Fury have 26 customization options including tinted lenses and colors like Racing Green or Sandstone.
The Starfire edition features a tiny gemstone on the lens, a metal nose pad to prevent makeup absorption, and an AI-generated voice of Kylie Jenner for Meta's voice assistant. The case includes a built-in mirror and a note from Jenner.
According to Peter Bristol, Meta's vice president of industrial design, smart glasses are like public transportation—people will use them when they are good enough. To improve comfort, Meta added adjustable nose pads (three directions, millimeter adjustments), adjustable temple tips via a core wire, and overextension hinges that flare the arms outward for wider heads. Size, weight, comfort, and design are critical for smart glasses, as demonstrated by the recent launch of Snap's AR Specs, which drew criticism for being bulky and expensive, causing Snap's stock to drop, WIRED reported.
Hardware and Features
The hardware is largely identical to the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses, according to WIRED. Features include:
- Camera: 12-megapixel photos, 3K video
- Audio: Five-microphone array for voice commands, speakers in the arms for music and podcasts
- Controls: Touch controls for music playback
- Battery: Approximately 8 hours per charge; included case provides up to 40 additional hours
- Charging: A new Meta Glasses Charging Stand is available
WIRED noted that during testing, the “Hey Meta” voice command sometimes had trouble waking the assistant in loud environments.
Pricing and Availability
The Meta Glasses go on sale today, June 23, 2026, starting at $299. The three models are available through EssilorLuxottica's retail network including LensCrafters.
Competitive Landscape
Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth commented on competition with Snap's AR Specs, saying it's good for customers to have competition and for Meta to learn from different design choices. He added, “When someone takes different choices in weight and comfort, we get to learn from that and see how people respond to it. I've said too much.”
Snap's recently launched AR Specs were described as comically huge and bulky, though more powerful, and the launch reportedly caused Snap's stock to plummet.
