Razer Huntsman V3 Tenkeyless 8KHz Review: Extensive Analog Customization in a Co

The Razer Huntsman V3 Tenkeyless 8KHz is a mixed performer with extensive analog customization via Synapse software, including rapid trigger and controller emulation. Its smooth response and solid build are offset by tall keycaps and lack of switch feedback. At $169.99 / £169.99 / AU$299.95, it offers decent value against competitors like the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3.

Razer Huntsman V3 Tenkeyless 8KHz Review: Extensive Analog Customization in a Co

The Razer Huntsman V3 Tenkeyless 8KHz is one of the brand's new flagship gaming keyboards, but its extensive analog customization and smooth response may also appeal to professionals seeking precise input control. According to TechRadar's review, the keyboard features Razer Analog Optical Switch Gen-2 switches with huge customization potential, designed for esport professionals. However, the tall keycaps and lack of tactile feedback make typing less comfortable, limiting its appeal as a daily driver.

Price and Availability

The Razer Huntsman V3 Tenkeyless 8KHz costs $169.99 / £169.99 / AU$299.95 and is available now in black only. Keycaps are removable but switches are not. TechRadar notes this is a decent price for an analog keyboard, especially one with as many software tweaks. Competitors include the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 (higher list price but often discounted) and the Turtle Beach Vulcan 2 TKL Pro (more budget-friendly but inferior analog precision).

Specs

Feature Detail
Layout TKL (Tenkeyless)
Switch Razer Analog Optical Switch Gen-2
Programmable keys Yes
Dimensions 14.2 x 5.5 x 1.5 inches / 362 x 140 x 38mm
RGB backlighting Yes (customizable)

Design and Features

The Huntsman V3 has a basic appearance with a brushed aluminum faceplate and high floating keycaps. The Doubleshot PBT keycaps have prominent graining that aids traction. The board is light and compact but feels solid, with minimal flex. The USB-C port is recessed on the back left for security. The tilt feet offer two angles for comfort.

Razer's Synapse software provides an impressive number of adjustments. Users can remap keys, assign up to four inputs per key based on press depth, and access features like Snap Tap (priority when two keys are pressed simultaneously) and Snap Flex (second input on key release). Analog settings include adjustable actuation from 0.1mm to 4mm per key, Rapid Trigger with independent upstroke and downstroke sliders (0.1mm to 1mm), and Continuous Rapid Trigger. Controller emulation mode lets users assign gamepad inputs, including stick and trigger curves.

Analog Performance and Typing Experience

TechRadar reports that analog performance is smooth and precise, but there is a lack of feel and feedback at the top of each key's travel. Pressing further provides more resistance for controlled actuation. The optical switches lack dampening or clickiness, feeling harsh at times—especially during typing. The tall keycaps make finger movement difficult. Despite these drawbacks, the keys are pleasant for gaming due to smooth travel.

Verdict

The TechRadar verdict states: "The Razer Huntsman V3 Tenkeyless 8KHz is a mixed performer." It offers an astounding number of adjustments, light but strong build, and smooth analog response. However, tall keycaps hinder typing, switches lack feedback, and Synapse had minor issues. At its price point, it remains a reasonable choice among analog gaming keyboards, though the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 offers superior build and performance with fewer analog tweaks.
