The HyperX Origins 2 1800 is a full-size gaming keyboard that prioritises a satisfying mechanical experience, according to a TechRadar review. While its clicky switches and hardware customisation options are highly competent, the keyboard falls short in software features and typing comfort with its stock keycaps.
Design and Build
The Origins 2 adopts a typical gaming keyboard aesthetic but stands out with a translucent plastic body that allows RGB lighting to shine through — described by TechRadar as "probably the brightest RGB I’ve ever seen in a keyboard." Build quality is above average, though the body is plastic rather than aluminum, and there is a fair amount of flex. The keyboard is very light despite its thickness, and easy-access screws underneath make body replacement simple.
Performance
TechRadar praised the stock Linear switches as "very snappy and responsive" with satisfying feedback. The generous tilt angle and dip in the middle row made the keyboard comfortable to use even without a wrist rest. However, the height of the stock keycaps can make typing difficult, and the keyboard is described as "a little loud."
Software
The accompanying software offers a generous selection of remapping options but is "disappointingly basic," lacking advanced or pro-level tweaks. Elite gamers will be more impressed by the hardware performance than the software customisation.
Price and Availability
The HyperX Origins 2 1800 costs $139.99 / £119.99 (about AU$200) and is available now in black only. While this is an expensive wired keyboard, TechRadar notes that its mechanical switches, build quality, and hot-swapping capabilities justify the price, and it costs less than some rivals.
