Trade uncertainty leads South Carolina Ports to temporarily shut down Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal
South Carolina Ports will temporarily shut down the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal in North Charleston on Aug. 1, consolidating container activity at other Charleston terminals. The decision is driven by an uncertain trade outlook in the second half of 2026 and the need to lower costs, according to SC Ports. The terminal's expansion to full buildout remains underway, but near-term volumes are insufficient to justify continued operations.
