Most Asian markets close higher as Taiwan Taiex and Japan Nikkei hit record highs

Asian equity markets largely advanced on Monday, with several benchmarks reaching new milestones amid broad-based investor optimism, according to News on AIR.

Regional index performance

Taiwan’s Taiex emerged as the standout performer, soaring 2.7 per cent after touching a record intraday high of 47,871. Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed more than one and a half per cent, scaling an all-time intraday peak of 72,831. South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.7 per cent to finish at an all-time closing high of 9,115, and Singapore’s Strait Times Index edged up 0.2 per cent. China’s Shanghai Composite added 1.8 per cent.

In contrast, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 0.6 per cent, bucking the regional uptrend.

Index Change Level/Note
Taiwan Taiex +2.7% Record intraday high 47,871
Japan Nikkei 225 +1.5% All-time intraday high 72,831
China Shanghai Composite +1.8%
South Korea Kospi +0.7% All-time closing high 9,115
Singapore Strait Times +0.2%
Hong Kong Hang Seng -0.6%

European markets mixed

Major European indices were trading on a mixed note when reports last came in. London’s FTSE 100 added 0.4 per cent, while France’s CAC 40 dipped 0.4 per cent and Germany’s DAX remained flat.

Investor sentiment

The broad-based advances across Asian markets reflect positive investor sentiment in the region, according to News on AIR. The record highs in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea suggest strong buying interest and confidence in the economic outlook.

Implications for executives and investors

For C-suite executives and investors tracking global capital flows, the record closes in major Asian indices signal robust regional demand and could influence allocation decisions. The divergence of Hong Kong — the only index in the red — may warrant closer scrutiny of China-specific risks. With multiple benchmarks at all-time highs, market participants will watch for sustainability of the rally and any profit-taking in the sessions ahead.

The next milestones include any further records from Nikkei and Taiex, as well as the performance of European and US markets in the ongoing trading day.
