Indian equity benchmarks ended the Friday session flat, with the Sensex declining 71 points and the Nifty slipping 30 points, according to The Times of India. The domestic indices had also been down 0.5 per cent intraday as Asian shares traded mostly lower.
Global Markets and US Inflation Data
The subdued close came as US stock futures stayed little changed after US inflation data showed a better-than-expected improvement in July, The Times of India reported. Oil prices remained steady after declining in recent sessions.
Across the region, Asian shares were mostly lower, with a handful of notable gainers:
| Index | Movement | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Japan's Nikkei 225 | +0.3% | 68,533.85 |
| South Korea's Kospi | +1.3% (around noon) | 6,924.74 |
| Hong Kong's Hang Seng | -1.0% | 25,137.87 |
| China's Shanghai Composite | -0.5% | 3,908.05 |
| Australia's S&P/ASX 200 | -1.1% | 9,090.90 |
| Taiwan's Taiex | -0.2% | — |

LEAP India Makes Strong Market Debut
Shares of LEAP India Ltd, a supply chain asset pooling firm, made a strong market debut on Friday, listing over 4 per cent above the issue price of Rs 159, The Times of India reported.
- The stock opened at Rs 166 on the BSE, marking a 4.40 per cent premium to the issue price.
- On the NSE, it listed at Rs 165.90, up 4.33 per cent.
- Following the listing, the company's market valuation stood at Rs 6,530.95 crore.
The initial share sale of LEAP India Ltd was subscribed 8.38 times on the final day of bidding on Tuesday.
The IPO had attracted strong investor interest, with the subscription closing on Tuesday. The dual-listing debut on both the BSE and the NSE places the company's market capitalisation at more than Rs 6,500 crore.
What This Means for Market Watchers
For investors and equity analysts tracking Indian markets, the flat close signals continued caution despite a better-than-expected US inflation reading, which typically supports risk appetite. The divergence between domestic indices and their Asian peers — where Japan and South Korea posted gains while Hong Kong, China, Australia, and Taiwan fell — underscores the varied regional response to global macro data. The strong listing of LEAP India, meanwhile, points to sustained demand for quality IPOs, with the issue being subscribed more than eight times.
The next key milestone for the domestic market will be the next trading session, where investors will assess whether the Sensex and Nifty can hold their current levels amid evolving inflation and oil price dynamics.
