Gujarat’s Rajkot to Host 2-Day Cottonseed and Groundnut Conclave Starting Aug 22

The Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) and the All India Cottonseed Crushers’ Association (AICOSCA) are set to jointly organise the seventh SEA-AICOSCA Cottonseed and Groundnut Conclave 2026 in Gujarat’s Rajkot on August 22 and 23, according to a media statement. The two-day event aims to bring together hundreds of delegates, policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the cottonseed, groundnut, edible oil, cake, and meal value chains to discuss market trends, policy developments, trade opportunities, and the future of the sector.

Conclave Objectives and Scope

The conclave will provide a common platform for stakeholders to discuss innovations, market opportunities, policy developments, value addition, and global demand trends in cottonseed oil, cake and meal as well as groundnut oil and meal. The event highlights the dual importance of cotton and groundnut as pillars of India’s oilseed economy.

Significance of Cottonseed and Groundnut

According to the statement, cotton is one of nature’s most versatile crops, uniquely providing fibre for clothing, edible oil for human consumption, and nutritious meal for livestock feed. Alongside groundnut, it forms a strong pillar of India’s oilseed economy, creating value across food, feed, and industrial sectors. While cottonseed contributes through oil, cake, and meal, groundnut offers premium edible oil, protein-rich meal, and diverse applications in food products and exports, thereby supporting farmer incomes, nutritional security, and agribusiness growth.

Key Stakeholders and Participation

The event will gather hundreds of delegates, policymakers, and industry leaders. Organisers include SEA, which represents the solvent extraction industry, and AICOSCA, which focuses on cottonseed crushing. The conclave is expected to cover innovations, market opportunities, policy developments, value addition, and global demand trends.

Indian non-basmati rice prices have risen by over $18 per tonne in recent weeks due to El Nino concerns, but remain the most competitive on a free-on-board (f.o.b.) basis. The monsoon deficit and domestic price increases support prices, while carryover inventories prevent a return to historical peaks. BMI raised its price forecast, and India is expected to retain a 42% global market share.

Lower maize acreage and sugar stock uncertainty shift focus to rice for ethanol in India

With maize acreage in top five producing states falling over 13% and sugar stocks expected very low at season end, India's ethanol blending programme is likely to depend more on rice. The government's target of 20% ethanol blending requires about 1,100 crore litres, and reduced broken-rice share in official stocks could boost feedstock availability. Fresh kharif arrivals are expected to strengthen supply.

The Indian Tobacco Board has cut the FCV tobacco crop size for 2026-27 by 43% to 81 million kg for Andhra Pradesh and 44% to 51 million kg for Karnataka, responding to a market glut exacerbated by competition from Brazil and African countries. Farmers, while understanding the rationale, are scrambling for alternative crops and demanding action against unlicensed growers who distort prices.

Monsoon Revival Defies July Fade-Out Forecast as Deep Depression Strengthens in Bay of Bengal

The Indian monsoon is staging a strong revival in late July, defying forecasts of a fade-out, as a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal drives widespread rainfall. National rainfall deficit improved to -15%, with Central India near normal at -3%. However, the resurgence has caused severe floods in Assam, with 68 casualties and over 6.5 lakh affected, alongside agricultural damage.
