Commodities TNAU forecasts ₹65-70/kg groundnut prices at harvest
TNAU's DEMIC has forecast groundnut prices at ₹65-70 a kg for the upcoming harvest, based on 25 years of price data from Tindivanam and Sevur markets. India, the world's second-largest groundnut producer, harvested 119.42 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, while trade sources expect arrivals to decline amid monsoon fluctuations.

Groundnut acreage in the ongoing kharif season rose nearly 9% to 46.82 lakh hectares as of August 7, driven by MSP procurement assurance and monsoon rains. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh posted sharp gains, while Gujarat and Karnataka saw declines. Wholesale mandi prices eased to around ₹7,073 per quintal from ₹7,333 on July 15.
Commodities ICRISAT develops two high-oleic groundnut varieties to boost farmer profitability and reduce edible oil imports
ICRISAT has developed two high-oleic groundnut varieties, ICGV 181030 and ICGV 201214, which have been identified for national release by AICRP-G. These varieties offer higher oleic acid content (78-81%), improved shelf life, and increased pod yields (7% increase over best check). They are expected to enhance farm profitability and reduce India's dependence on imported edible oils.
