SeaBird Wins Seismic Survey Contract Offshore India, Deploys Eagle Explorer

Marine seismic specialist SeaBird Exploration, a unit of SED Energy Holdings, has secured a contract for a 2D seismic survey offshore India, according to a company announcement. The contract will see the deployment of the Eagle Explorer vessel, with mobilisation expected to commence in mid-July. The project is expected to keep the vessel utilised through the first half of 2027.

Contract Details

The scope of work covers a 2D seismic survey in Indian offshore waters. SeaBird will use the Eagle Explorer, a vessel specifically equipped for such campaigns. The mobilisation start in mid-July and the utilisation period extending into 2027 indicate a long-term commitment from the client, though the counterparty was not named in the announcement.

Strategic Implications

This award strengthens SeaBird’s presence in the Indian market, according to the company. CEO Finn Atle Hamre commented: “The award reflects continued demand for high-quality 2D seismic data, supported by an increasing focus on energy security and resource development across the region.”

Parameter Detail
Contract Type 2D seismic survey
Vessel Eagle Explorer
Location Offshore India
Mobilisation Mid-July
Utilisation Through First half of 2027

Industry Context

The contract comes amid heightened interest in energy security and resource development in the region, as per Hamre’s remarks. Seismic data is critical for identifying hydrocarbon reserves, and the award signals ongoing investment in Indian offshore exploration. SeaBird positions itself to capture additional opportunities in the area, leveraging this campaign as a reference.

Outlook

With the Eagle Explorer booked through 2027, SeaBird secures steady revenue from the Indian market. The contract reinforces the company’s role in supplying subsurface data that supports exploration decisions, which can ultimately influence future oil and gas supply dynamics relevant to commodity tracking.
