Shearwater Wins ExxonMobil Seismic Survey Work Offshore Guyana for Yellowtail Fi

Norwegian seismic company Shearwater Geoservices has been awarded a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) seismic program by ExxonMobil in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. The two-month scope involves source-only acquisition for a baseline reservoir surveillance survey over the Yellowtail development area, using the SW Empress vessel in triple-source configuration. Yellowtail is ExxonMobil's fourth and largest deepwater project in the block, with a production capacity of 250,000 bpd and 2 million barrels storage.

Shearwater Wins ExxonMobil Seismic Survey Work Offshore Guyana for Yellowtail Fi

Norwegian offshore seismic vessel player Shearwater Geoservices has been awarded a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) seismic program by ExxonMobil in the Stabroek Block, offshore Guyana, according to a report by Splash247. The two-month scope of work comprises source-only seismic acquisition in support of a baseline DAS reservoir surveillance survey over the Yellowtail development area.

Seismic Program Details

Shearwater has deployed the SW Empress in a triple-source configuration, as a direct continuation of a multiclient project in South America, where the vessel has been operating since November 2025, Splash247 reported. Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater, stated: “DAS programs may provide clients with specific insights into reservoir surveillance throughout a field’s life. Shearwater’s source technology, offshore execution experience, and flexible capacity enable vessels to switch between different modes to maximise vessel utilisation.”

Yellowtail Development

Yellowtail is ExxonMobil’s fourth and largest deepwater oil mega-project in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana. The development utilises the One Guyana FPSO, which produces 250,000 barrels per day and stores 2 million barrels of crude, as per the article.

Project Feature Detail
Field Yellowtail
Operator ExxonMobil
Block Stabroek
FPSO One Guyana
Production capacity 250,000 bpd
Storage capacity 2 million barrels

Implications for Energy Markets

While the article does not provide direct commodity price data, the award of a seismic survey contract for a major deepwater project underscores ongoing investment in offshore oil production capacity. The Stabroek Block has been a prolific area for ExxonMobil, with multiple developments contributing to Guyana's emergence as a significant oil producer. This contract supports reservoir surveillance, which can help optimize production from the Yellowtail field, potentially influencing future supply from the region.
