TGS Secures 100-Day Ocean Bottom Node Seismic Contract for AMME Region

Oslo-listed seismic specialist TGS has secured a new 100-day ocean bottom node (OBN) contract from an undisclosed client in the Africa, Mediterranean, and Middle East (AMME) region, according to Splash247. A deep-water crew is scheduled to mobilise in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the project extending into 2027.

Contract Details and CEO Commentary

“We are very pleased to secure this OBN contract, which extends into 2027. This award from a repeat customer highlights the strength of our integrated business model and broad presence across all segments of the geophysical market,” said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, as reported by Splash247. The contract underscores the company's ongoing engagement in the AMME region, which covers multiple oil and gas exploration hotspots.

Expanding Project Portfolio

Within the previous week, TGS also announced multi-client reprocessing work with two new projects in frontier basins in Norway and Canada, and a new contract in Ghana, according to Splash247. In the Norwegian Sea, the company launched the Atlantic Margin South Reprocessing project covering more than 23,000 sq km of 3D data. Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, the Orphan 3D PSDM phase 2 reprocessing project will upgrade approximately 13,300 sq km of 3D seismic data across one of the North Atlantic’s most prospective exploration areas. In Ghana, the contract was awarded by the country’s Petroleum Commission to create a new offshore 2D-cubed project across the Keta Basin.

Regional Exploration Significance

These projects, concentrated in frontier basins, signal continued investment in oil and gas exploration in regions including the North Atlantic and West Africa. For commodity traders and analysts tracking crude oil supply, seismic data acquisition is a leading indicator of future drilling activity. The OBN contract in particular offers high-resolution imaging for deep-water targets, which can unlock new reserves in the AMME region.

Comparative Data on TGS's Recent Repossessing Projects

Project Location Volume/Area Duration/Status
Atlantic Margin South Reprocessing Norwegian Sea, Norway >23,000 sq km 3D Announced late July 2026
Orphan 3D PSDM Phase 2 Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada ~13,300 sq km 3D Announced late July 2026
Keta Basin 2D-Cubed Offshore Ghana Not specified Awarded by Petroleum Commission
AMME OBN Contract Africa, Mediterranean, Middle East Not specified 100 days, mobilizing Q4 2026

The Keta Basin project in Ghana adds to West Africa's exploration portfolio, where TGS already has a presence. The AMME OBN contract, together with the reprocessing work, demonstrates TGS's ability to secure repeat business while expanding into frontier regions. These developments are directly relevant to energy commodity stakeholders monitoring exploration trends and the potential for new oil and gas supply.
