Average daily UPI transaction volumes rose to 75.7 crore in June, up 1.2% from 74.8 crore in May, while average daily value remained nearly unchanged at Rs 96,405 crore, according to data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) reported by Business Today. The stability in daily run rates came even as headline monthly numbers softened after a strong May, the report noted.
Monthly and Daily Trends
On a monthly basis, total UPI volumes fell to 2,270 crore in June from 2,320 crore in May, a decline of 2.1%. Total value dropped 3.3% to Rs 28.9 lakh crore from Rs 29.9 lakh crore. Despite the sequential moderation, year-on-year growth remained strong: volumes rose 23% and value increased 20% compared to June last year.

FASTag and IMPS Performance
FASTag transaction volumes also declined month-on-month, falling 3.5% to 36.2 crore from 37.5 crore. FASTag value eased 1.3% to Rs 7,215 crore from Rs 7,308 crore. On a yearly basis, FASTag volumes contracted 6% but value increased 6%.
IMPS recorded a similar pattern: volumes fell 1.1% to 35.4 crore from 35.8 crore, and value declined 2.7% to Rs 6.8 lakh crore from Rs 7 lakh crore. Year-on-year, IMPS volumes fell 21% while value increased 12%.
Year-on-Year Growth Remains Strong
Despite the monthly dips, all three payment systems showed robust year-on-year growth in value, with UPI value increasing 20% and FASTag value rising 6%. UPI volumes surged 23% on a yearly basis, highlighting continued expansion of digital payments in India.
Implications for Digital Payments Ecosystem
The data, as reported by Business Today, indicates that UPI's daily transaction volumes continue to climb, even as monthly aggregates saw a temporary pullback. For e-commerce sellers and marketplace operators, the strong year-on-year growth signals sustained adoption of digital payments, which supports transaction reliability for online payments. Payment processors and platform managers may note the stability in daily values and the recovery potential after a strong May, suggesting that UPI remains a resilient payment channel.
