Banks across India will remain closed on at least eight separate dates in August 2026, with the holiday calendar varying from one state to another, according to Business-Today. The closures coincide with regional festivals and local observances, and banks will also remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month as per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.
For treasury and trade finance teams, the branch closures imply that cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions will not be available on these days, Business-Today reported. Digital banking services, including internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs and UPI platforms, will continue to operate, enabling fund transfers, bill payments and account management.
State-wise bank holiday schedule
Business-Today listed the following closure dates and the states affected:
| Date | States | Occasion |
|---|---|---|
| 4 August | Tripura | Ker Puja |
| 8 August | Sikkim | Tendong Lho Rum Faat |
| 13 August | Manipur | Patriot's Day |

Operational impact on trade finance and cash management
Business-Today advised customers to verify whether their local branch is open before visiting, given the state-wise variation in closures. The absence of branch-based services on these dates means cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions cannot be executed, the source reported. Customers should therefore plan such work in advance to avoid inconvenience.
"Services requiring a visit to a bank branch, including cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions, will not be available on bank holidays," Business-Today reported.
Digital channels remain available
While branches will be closed, Business-Today noted that digital banking services will continue uninterrupted. Customers can use internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs and UPI platforms for services such as fund transfers, bill payments and account management throughout the holiday period.
For corporate treasuries, the practical takeaway from Business-Today's calendar is that branch-dependent banking services will be suspended on these dates, so cheque and demand draft workflows must be planned around the closure schedule. The state-wise variation means a transaction that can be processed in one state on a given date may not be executable in another, reinforcing the need to confirm local branch availability before submitting physical instruments.
