India Bank Holidays in August 2026: State-Wise Closures This Week

Banks across India will observe multiple closures this week and in the remaining days of August, with holiday dates varying by state depending on regional festivals and local observances, according to Business-Today. The closures affect branch-based services, while digital banking channels remain operational throughout the holiday period.

August 2026 bank holiday calendar

Business-Today reported that this week, banks in Tripura will remain shut on August 19, on the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. The remaining closures for August 2026 are spread across three more dates: August 25, August 26, and August 28.

  • August 25: Banks in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will be closed for Milad-Un-Nabi/First Onam/Milad-i-Sherif (Birthday of Prophet Muhammed), according to Business-Today.
  • August 26: Banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will be closed for Id-E-Milad/Baravafat/Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammad)/Thiruvonam, according to Business-Today.
  • August 28: Banks in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh will be closed for Raksha Bandhan/Pang-Lhabsol/Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi/Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi/Ayyankali Jayanthi, according to Business-Today.

August 26 Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand Id-E-Milad / Baravafat / Milad-un-Nabi (Birthday of Prophet Mohammad) / Thiruvonam

Business-Today noted that apart from festivals and national and regional events, banks also remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month under the RBI's holiday guidelines.

Digital channels remain operational

A branch holiday does not mean banking services come to a complete halt, according to Business-Today. Customers can continue using internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs and UPI platforms for fund transfers, bill payments and account management.

Branch-dependent transactions need advance planning

Services that require a visit to the branch — such as cheque processing, issuance of demand drafts and large cash transactions — will not be available on these holidays, Business-Today reported. The report's guidance is that customers should plan such transactions in advance. For treasury and trade finance teams operating in the affected states, this means ensuring that any cheques, demand drafts or high-value cash requirements are processed before the relevant holiday dates.

Joint Home Loans: When Co-Borrowing Improves Eligibility, Liquidity and Tax Benefits

Santosh Agarwal, CEO of Paisabazaar, explains when joint home loans make sense for Indian households: combined incomes can raise borrowing eligibility and preserve liquidity, but co-borrowers share credit-score risk and tax benefits depend on ownership structure.
