Hudco Q1 Net Profit Surges 35% to ₹851 Crore, Interest Income Rises Sharply

State-owned Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (Hudco) reported a 35% increase in net profit to ₹851 crore for the first quarter ended June 2026, compared with ₹630 crore in the same period last year, according to a regulatory filing.

Financial Performance Overview

Hudco's total income rose to ₹3,737 crore in Q1 FY27, up from ₹2,945 crore in the year-ago quarter. The growth was primarily driven by a sharp increase in interest income, which reached ₹3,710 crore versus ₹2,925 crore in Q1 FY26. Expenses also increased, climbing to ₹2,561 crore from ₹1,976 crore.

Metric Q1 FY27 Q1 FY26 Change
Net Profit ₹851 cr ₹630 cr +35%
Total Income ₹3,737 cr ₹2,945 cr +26.9%
Interest Income ₹3,710 cr ₹2,925 cr +26.8%
Expenses ₹2,561 cr ₹1,976 cr +29.6%

Dividend and Capital Management

The company declared its first interim dividend of ₹1.25 per equity share, representing 12.50% on the face value of ₹10 per share for the financial year 2026-27. This payout signals strong cash generation and a commitment to shareholder returns.

Asset Quality Improvement

A notable highlight is the sharp reduction in provisions for loan impairment. Hudco made provisions using the expected credit loss (ECL) method amounting to ₹621 crore as on June 30, 2026, down significantly from ₹1,702.89 crore as on June 30, 2025. This 63.5% decline suggests improved asset quality and lower credit risk in the loan portfolio.

Fundraising Activity

During the quarter, Hudco raised ₹2,140 crore through the issuance of listed non-convertible debt securities on a private placement basis. This demonstrates the company's access to capital markets and its ability to tap long-term funding at competitive rates.

Implications for Infrastructure Financing

As a premier techno-financing public sector enterprise in housing and infrastructure development, according to the company, Hudco's strong earnings and reduced provisions enhance its capacity to extend credit to the urban development sector. For corporate treasurers and trade finance professionals tracking state-owned entities, the improved profitability and lower impairment charges indicate a healthier balance sheet, potentially lowering the cost of capital for Hudco's future borrowings. The interim dividend also provides a visible yield for investors.

"The company has declared its first interim dividend of ₹1.25 per equity share, which is 12.50 per cent on the face value of ₹10 each, for the financial year 2026-27." — Hudco regulatory filing

The combination of higher interest income, lower provisions, and active debt issuance positions Hudco as a stable counterparty in the infrastructure finance ecosystem, with direct implications for bond markets and lending spreads.
