India and Australia have agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the provision of defence articles and services. This decision was made during the second Defence Ministers' Dialogue held on June 1, 2026, in New Delhi.

The dialogue was hosted by India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles. Both ministers reviewed the progress in bilateral defence relationships since the inaugural dialogue on October 9, 2025. The ministers discussed the finalization of the Joint Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap. The dialogue also explored opportunities to enhance undersea domain awareness and encouraged cooperation between the Indian Coast Guard and Australia's Maritime Border Command.

Military Exercises and Science Cooperation
The dialogue noted the expansion of military cooperation, including the evolution of army Exercise Austrahind. India participated in Operation Render Safe 2026, while Australia was invited to the submarine rescue exercise Black Carillon. Both nations look forward to India's participation in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2027.
Australia invited India to the 2026 Australian Defence Science, Technology, and Research Summit, aiming to explore cooperation in sensor technologies.
Quad Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance
Both countries expressed strong support for the Quad Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Collaboration (IPMSC) initiative. They welcomed India's operationalisation of the Indian Ocean Region programme through the Information Fusion Centre in Gurugram.
