DigiYatra Expands to 27 More Airports, Enhancing Air Travel

DigiYatra, the innovative facial recognition-based platform, is set to expand its reach to 27 additional airports across India by next year. This expansion aims to further streamline passenger processing and enhance the efficiency of air travel in the country.

Current Adoption and Future Plans

Currently operational at 38 airports, DigiYatra has already facilitated over 10 crore seamless journeys. The platform, which utilizes Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), significantly reduces average airport entry processing times from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds per passenger. This expansion is part of a broader strategy by the Civil Aviation Ministry to accommodate the projected increase in passenger traffic, which is expected to reach 50 crore by 2030 and nearly double by 2040.

Impact on Air Freight and Logistics

The expansion of DigiYatra is expected to have a positive impact on air freight operations by reducing congestion and improving throughput at key airports. This efficiency gain is crucial as the demand for air cargo capacity continues to rise. The initiative supports 11 languages, with plans to add 11 more regional languages by the end of the year, further enhancing accessibility.

"By replacing manual document verification, the platform has reduced average airport entry processing times from 15 seconds down to just 5 seconds per passenger," said Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu.

Recommendations for Shippers and Operators

  • Monitor Airport Updates: Stay informed about the rollout schedule of DigiYatra at additional airports to plan logistics operations accordingly.
  • Leverage Technology: Utilize the DigiYatra app to streamline passenger and cargo processing, reducing delays and improving efficiency.
  • Prepare for Increased Capacity: Anticipate increased passenger and cargo throughput as more airports adopt the platform, and adjust logistics strategies to capitalize on these efficiencies.
