CONCOR and GAIL Sign 15-Year Deal for LNG Dispensing Station at Ahmedabad ICD

CONCOR and GAIL have signed a 15-year agreement to build an LNG dispensing station at CONCOR's Khodiyar Inland Container Depot (ICD) near Ahmedabad, enabling a shift to cleaner fuel for container logistics in western India.

According to a regulatory filing by CONCOR on Thursday, July 10, 2026, as reported by The Hindu Business Line, GAIL (India) Ltd will hold exclusive operational control and invest in setting up the retail LNG outlet infrastructure. CONCOR will provide 3,000 square meters of dedicated land within its high-traffic Ahmedabad terminal, along with essential utility connectivity.

Agreement Overview

The 15-year pact covers the development of a state-of-the-art LNG dispensing station at ICD Khodiyar, a rail-linked container depot that connects the Port of Mundra and other Gujarat ports to the hinterland. GAIL will finance and operate the refueling point, while CONCOR contributes the land and utilities. This multi-modal facility will operate round-the-clock, offering high-performance and eco-friendly fueling support to CONCOR's logistics fleet as well as other open-market commercial vehicles.

Facility and Fleet Details

Key terms include:

Parameter Value
Agreement Duration 15 years
Location Khodiyar ICD, Ahmedabad
Land Provided by CONCOR 3,000 sq m
Dedicated Fleet Commitment 15 LNG-powered commercial vehicles in Year 1
Operational Control GAIL
Operating Hours 24/7

CONCOR also committed to deploying a dedicated fleet of 15 LNG-powered commercial vehicles starting in the first year of the contract, as per the filing. This is a concrete step toward integrating LNG into container drayage operations.

Implications for Rail and Intermodal Logistics

For freight forwarders and logistics managers operating in the Ahmedabad–Mundra corridor, the new dispensing station reduces reliance on diesel and provides access to LNG fuel, which is typically cheaper and cleaner. The 15-truck deployment by CONCOR signals a growing commitment to alternative fuels in container drayage. Operators using ICD Khodiyar should assess the availability of LNG refueling for their own fleets and consider retrofitting or purchasing LNG trucks to take advantage of the round-the-clock facility. The depot's rail connectivity also means that intermodal container movements can benefit from lower-emission road transport on the first and last miles.

Watch List

Upcoming factors to monitor: The success of this pilot could lead to expansion to other CONCOR terminals across India, especially those near major ports. GAIL's investment in retail LNG infrastructure may accelerate the adoption of LNG in the trucking sector. Additionally, the 15-year duration provides long-term certainty for shippers and operators planning fleet upgrades.
