Dyson Launches V16 Piston Animal Vacuum with 315 AW Power and New Cleaner Head Technology

Dyson has introduced the V16 Piston Animal stick vacuum, along with a Submarine variant featuring a wet cleaner head, according to a review from WIRED. The V16 is now Dyson's most powerful stick vacuum, unseating the Gen5Detect ($840), which had held that title since 2023. The new model reports 315 air-watts (AW) of power, a significant increase from the Gen5's 262 AW.

Product Launch and Specifications

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal arrives five years after its predecessor, the V15 Detect. The "Animal" designation refers to the Piston's specialized hair-screw attachment for cleaning pet hair. The most notable change is the new All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head, designed for vacuuming both soft and hard floors. According to WIRED, this cleaner head adapts to different flooring types and responds in about one second when switching from hard floors to carpet or rug.

The Submarine variant includes a wet cleaner head for mopping. Both versions are compatible with a docking station that is due out later this year, which offers better add-on options than any other Dyson vacuum.

Comparison with Gen5Detect

While the V16 offers improved power and add-ons, the older Gen5Detect still holds up well against the new model. The Gen5Detect is priced at $840 and costs much less than the V16 (though WIRED did not specify the V16's price). The review notes that the V16 Piston Animal is the best choice if you want the new add-ons, but for a great Dyson vacuum at a lower cost, there are plenty of cheaper options.

Key Technological Innovation: All Floor Cones Sense Cleaner Head

The All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head is the standout feature. It expertly tackled all floor types and debris during WIRED's testing. The head automatically adapts between hard floors and carpets, providing seamless cleaning without manual adjustments.

Availability and Timeline

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal and Submarine are available now. The docking station compatible with these models is expected later this year. For manufacturing professionals, this launch represents a continued innovation in home appliance technology, though no factory capacity or supply chain details were disclosed in the source.
