WIRED's Reviews team has tested hundreds of MagSafe accessories — wallets, tripods, charging docks, and more — and reports that the accessory ecosystem is expanding beyond Apple's iPhones through the Qi2 wireless charging standard. Qi2 adds the Magnetic Power Profile, which is based on MagSafe, and enables the same magnetic accessories to work with Android phones such as the Google Pixel 10 series, according to the publication.
What MagSafe and Qi2 mean for device compatibility
MagSafe is the name of Apple's accessory system integrated into the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 ranges, excluding the iPhone SE and iPhone 16e, according to WIRED. A ring of magnets on the back of the phone (and in MagSafe cases) helps transfer power more precisely and faster than traditional wireless chargers, WIRED reported. The same magnetic ring also holds accessories such as wallets in place or mounts the iPhone without requiring clamps.
Qi2 is the wireless charging standard that adds the Magnetic Power Profile, based on MagSafe, WIRED explained. Qi2 phones feature a similar magnetic attachment system, enabling MagSafe accessories to work with more devices with no case needed. The Google Pixel 10 series is the first range to fully support Qi2, the publication reported. Samsung's Galaxy S25 series are "Qi2 Ready" phones, meaning they need a magnetic case to enable Qi2 functionality because there are no magnets built into the phone.
According to WIRED, any device you buy with Qi2 will offer maximum compatibility.
MagSafe on Android: what works
Natively, MagSafe does not work with most Android phones, according to WIRED. However, MagSafe cases are available for certain Android phones, including Google Pixel series and Samsung Galaxy devices, and these cases contain a similar magnetic ring that allows the use of many MagSafe power banks, wireless chargers, and other accessories. Several accessory companies also include or sell a MagSafe magnetic component that sticks to the back of a smartphone to enable compatibility, WIRED reported.
Case selection is critical: an iPhone used with a standard case will see weaker magnetic attachment, WIRED noted. A MagSafe case has its own ring of magnets and maintains the magnetic strength; some case-makers use stronger magnets for a more secure fit.

Tested accessories and new additions
The WIRED Reviews team tested hundreds of MagSafe accessories, and the guide was updated in August 2026 with new products from SanDisk, Insta360, and ShiftCam, WIRED reported. The team also replaced a previous pick with a product it preferred after further testing. Among the accessories featured is Belkin's iPhone Mount With MagSafe, which uses Apple's Continuity Camera feature to wirelessly use an iPhone as a webcam for a MacBook, according to WIRED.
The common denominator in WIRED's testing is Qi2 compatibility: the latest iPhones all support Qi2, and any device bought with Qi2 will offer maximum compatibility, WIRED reported. The magnetic accessories covered in the guide can therefore serve both iPhone and Qi2-equipped Android hardware such as the Google Pixel 10 series.
