TechRadar tested the Shokz OpenDots 2 for two weeks and found that the open-ear clip-on earbuds deliver "incredible" sound quality, especially considering the open design. According to TechRadar, the OpenDots 2 are part of a duo launch alongside the cheaper Shokz OpenDots Air, which lack wireless charging, waterproofing, and bone conduction mics.
Design and Fit
The OpenDots 2 feature a clip-on form factor that sits like a helix piercing over the ear. TechRadar described the design as "light and comfortable" and "almost jewellery-like," with the testing pair sporting a metal-and-pearl off-white sheen. The shape does not interfere with glasses, unlike over-ear hooks. However, the open-ear design makes them "much less stable than over-ear hooks," and they are prone to becoming dislodged by the accidental brush of a hand or a hood. TechRadar recommends extra care during commutes. The earbuds weigh 6.4g each and have an IP55 waterproof rating.
Sound Quality and EQ Modes
Despite lacking a seal around the ear canal, the OpenDots 2 produce "powerful bass" and very little sound leakage, according to TechRadar. A dedicated Private equalizer mode reportedly reduces leakage further, but even on Standard, office colleagues could not hear any leakage even at high volume. The Shokz app offers EQ modes including Vocal, Bass, and Smart EQ, which guides users through six 'A or B' comparisons to find an optimal setting. TechRadar calls the sound quality "excellent for open-ear headphones" and says they are among the strongest clip-on earbuds, comparable to Bose Ultra Opens in sound and surpassing them in fit.
Battery and Charging
Battery life is strong: the buds offer 10 hours of playback, and the charging case adds 40 hours total, according to Shokz. Wireless charging takes 3.5 hours, while a full wired USB-C charge takes 2 hours. Connectivity uses Bluetooth 6.1 multipoint.

Price and Availability
The Shokz OpenDots 2 are priced at $199.95 in the US, £179.99 in the UK, and AU$339 in Australia. That is comparable to the AirPods 4 with ANC ($179 / £179 / AU$299), though TechRadar notes the OpenDots 2 are not as versatile. The product is available now.
TechRadar's review concludes that the OpenDots 2 are high-quality, durable, attractive, and stable when left alone, but users should be careful when pulling down a hood or in crowded spaces. The reviewer noted that a Shokz representative said the company hopes to eventually "replace AirPods," though the reviewer doubts that will happen soon.
