India’s edible oil import bill surges 20% in first eight months of oil year 2025-26
India’s edible oil import bill increased by 20.20% in the first eight months of oil year 2025-26, reaching ₹1.19 lakh crore. The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) projects the full-year bill to touch ₹1.75 lakh crore, driven by a weaker rupee, monsoon delays, global palm oil diversion to biodiesel, and higher freight costs. SEA President Sanjeev Asthana called for domestic production boost and crop diversification.
