USTR's Sec 301 Probe on Forced Labour: India Urges Reconsideration of Proposed 12.5% Tariffs

India has formally requested the U.S. Trade Representative to reconsider proposed 12.5% tariffs under a Section 301 forced labour investigation, arguing the USTR failed to conduct economy-specific analysis and provided insufficient evidence of unfair advantage. The proposed tariffs target 54 economies, including India and China, with a 10% rate for six economies and 12.5% for 48 others. Public hearings were held on July 7, 2026.
