Norway Awards Contract for World's First Ship Tunnel Through a Mountain

The Norwegian Coastal Administration has awarded AF Gruppen a turnkey contract worth NOK 5.6bn ($564.5m) for the Stad Ship Tunnel, the world's first ship tunnel. The 1.7 km tunnel will allow freight and passenger ships to safely transit between the Norwegian Sea and North Sea year-round, bypassing hazardous waters. Construction begins in early 2027 and is expected to take about five years.
