Indian officials to testify before US Trade Representative to counter tariff move
Indian officials from the commerce ministry and industry bodies including APEDA, FICCI, CII, and ACMA are scheduled to testify before the U.S. Trade Representative on July 8 to oppose a proposed 12.5% additional duty on Indian goods. India has submitted written arguments stating that the USTR's findings ignore India's robust domestic legal regime against forced labour. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) asserted that India's policy framework does not qualify as 'unreasonable' or 'discriminatory' under Section 301(b) of the Trade Act of 1974.
