Nestlé India to Establish Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad, Tapping Growth Potential

Nestlé India is set to launch a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, according to ET Retail. The move aligns the maker of Nescafe and Maggi with other large consumer companies—including McDonald's, L'Oréal, and Carlsberg—that have established GCCs in India to capitalise on the country's growth potential amid global market saturation. A Nestlé India spokesperson declined to comment on the development.

Strategic Context and Executive Outlook

Nestlé India chairman and managing director Manish Tiwary told shareholders at the company’s 67th Annual General Meeting last week that despite uneven demand patterns due to steep food and fuel inflation, India’s long-term potential remains resilient. He emphasised that Nestlé will step up its focus on penetration-led volume growth, particularly in rural and semi-urban markets, which he described as “the next wave of long-term consumption.”

Financial Performance and Investment

The company has invested approximately Rs 2,000 crore in capital expenditure over the last two years. For the January–March 2026 quarter, Nestlé India reported a 22.6% year-on-year increase in revenues to Rs 6,748 crore. Domestic sales for the full financial year 2026 reached Rs 23,071.5 crore, driven by double-digit volume growth and market share gains.

India’s GCC Landscape and Projections

A report by Nasscom–Zinnov noted that India had 1,700 GCCs in fiscal year 2024, generating $64.6 billion in exports and employing more than 1.9 million people. According to the same report, by the year 2030 the number of GCCs could expand to 2,200 centres, with revenue reaching up to $105 billion.

Metric FY24 Actual 2030 Projection
Number of GCCs 1,700 2,200
Exports / Revenue $64.6 billion $105 billion
Employment 1.9 million (not specified)

Industry Outlook

Brokerage Anand Rathi said in a report last fortnight that India's FMCG sector is likely to clock healthy revenue growth in the first quarter of FY27 despite inflationary pressures, supported by premiumisation, selective price hikes, and stronger performance in modern trade and quick commerce. The report added that while rural demand has moderated in some categories, urban consumption remained relatively resilient.

Nestlé India's GCC move and continued investment underscore its commitment to long-term resilience and market expansion, leveraging India’s rapidly maturing capability centre ecosystem to support global operations.
