Aker BP and Viridien Partner for Norwegian Exploration

Aker BP and Viridien, formerly known as CGG, have entered into a partnership to advance exploration efforts on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This collaboration aims to leverage Aker BP's operational expertise with Viridien's leading imaging technology to optimize exploration and accelerate the discovery of additional reserves.

Partnership Details

The agreement between Aker BP and Viridien establishes a five-year cooperation framework. This framework is designed to align strategies and bring consistent effort to innovation and technology development. By expanding Viridien’s multi-client OBN coverage, the partnership supports large-scale exploration initiatives.

“Our strategic partnership with Viridien supports Aker BP’s ambition to deliver profitable and sustainable growth on the Norwegian Continental Shelf,” said Petter Sørhaug, exploration and reservoir development at Aker BP.

Technological Advancements

The partnership focuses on multi-client Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic data acquisition and imaging. This technology is seen as a key enabler for improved imaging and higher-quality subsurface data, crucial for both exploration and field development.

Dechun Lin, head of Earth data at Viridien, emphasized the role of their expertise in seismic imaging and local knowledge in de-risking near-field exploration and enabling recent discoveries.

Strategic Implications

The collaboration between Aker BP and Viridien is expected to enhance the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and value of OBN technology. This partnership is a strategic move to support Aker BP's growth ambitions and to ensure sustainable exploration practices on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Future Prospects

The partnership is poised to play a significant role in the future of exploration in Norway. By combining resources and expertise, Aker BP and Viridien aim to push the boundaries of current exploration technologies and methodologies.
