Aberdeen-based well-integrity and decommissioning specialist Unity has entered the Asia-Pacific market with its first significant contract in Malaysia, partnering with Reservoir Link on a three-well rigless intervention programme for an international offshore operator, according to a report by Splash247.
Contract Details and Technology
The work will see Unity and Reservoir Link jointly deliver intervention services using Unity’s surface intervention system (SIS) on all three wells. The SIS is a lightweight surface-based solution designed to carry out wellhead integrity repairs, restore production and prepare wells for early-stage plug-and-abandonment (P&A) without the need for a traditional intervention spread.
Unity stated that the system has already been used on more than 20 campaigns since 2016 and is especially suited to ageing assets where vessel-based wireline or hydraulic workover support can add cost and complexity.
Stuart Slater, Unity’s region manager for Asia Pacific, explained: "[The SIS] was developed for conditions such as small platforms, limited crane capacity, ageing wellheads and tight personnel-on-board restrictions. By removing the need for a support vessel entirely, it delivers significant cost savings."
Partnership with Reservoir Link
Reservoir Link will provide local execution support from its Asian Supply Base and Kemaman Supply Base in Malaysia. The company said its role will include operational support, local regulatory knowledge and established customer relationships across Malaysia and the wider South-East Asian region.
