A self-help group (SHG) from Odisha's Angul district — Maa Kalijai SHG — has exported 7.5 quintals of Amrapali mangoes to London, according to a media statement cited by The Hindu BusinessLine. The export marks a milestone for the state's inclusive agri-export drive under the Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organisations (PSFPO) project.
Institutional Support and Partnerships
The statement said that the success of Maa Kalijai SHG was enabled through support from the Directorate of Horticulture under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE) under the PSFPO project. Marketing facilitation for the export was comprehensively supported by Palladium Consulting, the implementation partner for the PSFPO project.
Mission Shakti and the Odisha Livelihoods Mission have been instrumental in the overall strengthening of the SHG, contributing to its sustained development and enhanced capabilities, enabling SHGs to reach new heights and connect their products to global markets, the statement added.
Palladium's Role in the Export Ecosystem
As the implementation partner, Palladium Consulting supports the export ecosystem through awareness and sensitisation workshops, field-level demonstrations, and exporter meets. It also facilitates procurement, coordination with farmers and FPOs, and provides continuous hand-holding support, according to the media statement.
Quoting Soumya Ranjan Sahoo, agribusiness expert at Palladium, the statement said:
"The Maa Kalijai SHG export is a powerful demonstration of how targeted interventions, institutional convergence, and capacity building can unlock the potential of even the smallest producer groups. This milestone sets a new benchmark for inclusive agri-exports in Odisha."
Mango Export Performance in Odisha
So far this year, Odisha has already achieved 90 tonnes of mango exports, supported by the Directorate of Horticulture under the DA&FE, through the PSFPO project implemented by Palladium Consulting, the statement reported.
| Export Detail | Volume | Destination | Supporting Agencies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maa Kalijai SHG (Amrapali mangoes) | 7.5 quintals | London | DA&FE, Mission Shakti, Odisha Livelihoods Mission, Palladium Consulting |
| Total Odisha mango exports (2026 YTD) | 90 tonnes | Global | Directorate of Horticulture, Palladium Consulting |
Implications for Trade Professionals
This export demonstrates that even small producer groups can access international markets when supported by structured programmes like the PSFPO project. For importers and customs brokers, the shipment of Amrapali mangoes from a single SHG to London indicates growing supply chain capabilities from non-traditional export regions in India. The involvement of multiple government agencies and a private implementation partner (Palladium) suggests a replicable model for other districts and commodities. As Odisha scales its mango exports, trade professionals should monitor further shipments from SHGs and FPOs, which may lead to increased volumes and new product lines from the state.
The export was published on June 8, 2026, according to The Hindu BusinessLine.
